Mechanical PROCESS ENGINEER MANAGER – West Rand, Jhb

Manufacturer of commercial appliances / catering equipment

Objective:

Technical strategy of the company, by defining the product development methodology (lean/agile).

Lead the planning, execution and success of Engineering Projects while recommending best practices and assessing the feasibility of new business requirements.

Job Description:

  • Day to day running of the department and managing the processes relating to developing of new products and the upliftment of the current product offering.
  • Managing project deadlines, while maximizing the departments productivity, by implementing processes that can measure outputs.
  • Responsible for dealing with endemic issues and handling customer concerns.

Duties:

  • Lead the Product Development Team (draughting & design) in delivering new and innovative products to translate the customer’s needs into executable projects.
  • Develop and implement best practices for the department; planning vision; strategy; policies; processes and procedures that will aid the company’s operational excellence vision.
  • Coordinate and direct a series of tasks designed to ensure the efficiency and quality of manufacturing, while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
  • Managing engineering projects and ECR’s by developing a successful project plan and setting realistic goals for all engineers. 
  • Manage the entire throughput of the Engineering Department and improving the productivity by working with the individuals and addressing their training requirements as well as facilitating them by making design recommendations through regular interaction. 
  • Ensure the development of designs that promote labour productivity in both the production departments through utilizing “Design for Excellence” (Fabrication, Assembly and Disassembly) methodologies.
  • Lead Value Engineering initiatives to promote continuous improvement and Life Cycle cost savings.
  • Manage the standard engineering documents and filing structures by implementing standard operating procedures and maintaining the document control procedures as per the “Total Quality Management Systems”.
  • Maintain the companies Bill of Materials and creating new BOM’s where necessary and calculating the product cost.
  • Work closely with the Production Director and assist production by making design improvements and reducing manufacturing cost.
  • Effective 5 S’s housekeeping
  • Skills / Experience:

    • B Eng (Mech or Electrical) or PMP
    • Min 5 years’ experience - in managing an Engineering Department
    • 3 years’ experience in 3D design software package - such as Solidworks or Inventor
    • Strong Drawing office administration skills
    • Must have some experience in Change Management.
    • Experience in coordinating cross-functional teams in a project setting.
    • Ability to handle customers’ requests professionally
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to establish a culture of innovation.
    • Sound understanding of Agile Project Management.
    • Ability to provide leadership and motivate a diverse team.
    • Sound understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.
    • Good understanding of the Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
    • Strong business acumen.

    Salary          R700, 000 CTC per year (negotiable with the experience)
